MEETING OF MANAGEMENT

COMMITTEE.

Mr R. Iv. Hunter presided at a meeting of tho Management Committee of the Otago Educational Institute. The executive of the New Zealand Educational Institute, in a letter to the branch, brought forward the question of the limitation of appointments to head teachersbips of Grade 5A and upwards. After a full discussion a motion was passed expressing disagreement with the resolution which hud been recently affirmed by the Council of Education on this matter. Miss Sullivan introduced a . vomit regarding tho election of delegates to tho annual conference. Correspondence containing expressions of the views of the sub-branches concerning this question was read by the secretary, ft was resolved that a sub-committee consisting of Mr G. Palmer, Miss L. Sullivan, and the secretary be set up to consider the procedure for the election of delegates. The Secretary reported that he had represented the institute on a. committee set up to make arrangements for tho visit of Professor John Adams. The secretary’s action was approved, and it was decided to make a grant of £5 5s towards the expenses of the visit. It was unanimously decided to ask Mr J. A. -Moore, M.A., of the Training College, to continue as the institute's delegate on the W.E.A. Council. Correspondence was read from the Women Teachers’ Association and the Assistant Masters’ Association requesting that efforts lie made to remove the injustice done to original members of the superannuation fund by the non-recogni-tion of Tr;iining College service. It was decided to bring this matter before the New Zealand Institute. Tho Head Teachers’ Association ■ forwarded a communication dealing with the question of parents’ complaints against teachers. It was resolved to urge the Education Board to draw up regulations which wo;dd govern the procedure to he adopted by parents, teachers, and committees when complaints against teachers were made.
