A MASSIVE TROPHY

GIFT OF EX-AMERICAN CONSUL. True to a promise made before he left the dominion, the Hon. David F. Wilber, ex-United States Consul-General in New Zealand, has forwarded a massive trophy for competition amongst HojsteiuFriesian breeders (says the Wellington ‘ Dominion ’). The gift, which has arrived at the office of the American Consulate in Wellington, was made by Mr Wilber in token of appreciation for courtesies extended to him while in the dominion, and as a mark of his regard for the people of the country. The trophy consists of a massive silver vase, with cover, mounted upon an ebony base and enclosed in a solid mahogany cabinet. Tho total height, including base, is 54-Jm. The vase is of Grecian outline, with ornamental handle, and has festoons and borders of laurel leaves. The cover is surmounted by a silver model of a Holstein-Friesian bull, which has been colored true to nature through the silversmith’s art in oxidising the dark spots o nin bringing out tho pure white. This particular feature was specially modelled, and will probably prove the outstanding feature of the trophy to breeders. Tn. il vlcbiiig inscribed on the side of tin: vase A : '•The Wilber Eemem, brance Trophy, presented to Mnnawatu and W T est Coast A. and P. Association, Palmerston North, New Zealand, by Hon. David F. Wilber, Consul-General, U.S.A., New Zealand, 1922-23, for best Friesian Group, consisting of bull (over two years), aged cow, three years old, and two-year-old heifers. First competition, November, 1924.” The trophy will be retained by the association as a permanent exhibit at the show grounds, but Mr Wilber will provide the association every year with a replica in miniature, which will become the property of the winner for that year.
