MELBOURNE, May 6.
A conference between representatives of the Tramway Board, the Trades Hall, and the tramway employees discussed the strike. The outlook is now more bodeful.
Cabinet lias decided not to intervene, as the .Tramway Board is clothed with all necessary authority to enforce discipline in its service and protect the public. The lack of trams to-day caused great inconvenience. The men to-night will discuss the proceedings of the conference, which wera not made public. THE 'BOARD’S STAND. WORK FIRST, NEGOTIATE AFTER WARDS. MELBOURNE, May 7. (Received May 7, at 10.10 a.m.) Tho Tramway Board, after a long dim mission with the Trades Hall Disputes Committee and other representatives of tha men, refused to reinstate the gripmaji involved, and the strike remains unsettled. The board’s attitude is that work must be resumed before anything furtner can be don© in tho matter.
