Mr C. E. Wheeler, of Wellington, a journalist well-known throughout New Zealand, is at present on a visit to Dunedin. Ho will leave for Invercargill tomorrow.

Dotective-sergeant D. Cameron has been appointed senior detective at Wellington, vice Chief Detective W. E. Lewis. Senior Detective Cameron was stationed in Wellington from 1904 until 1915, when ho was transferred to Dunedin, where he remained for four and a-half year's. Until recently he was stationed at Wanganui. Newly-arrived guests at the Excelsior Hotel include Mr and Tlrs J. Mosseu (Gore), Mr and Mrs G. E. Townson (Invercargill), Mr and Mrs A. Miller (Christchurch), Mr F. M'Kenzie (Timani), Mr F. W. Richards (Auckland). The chairman of the Council (New Zealand branch) of the British Medical Association has received information from America that Dr TV. J. Mayo and Mrs Mayo, together with Dr Franklin H. Martin, Director-General of the American College of Surgeons, and Sirs Martin (of Chicago), and Mr and Mrs J. H. Kahler (of Rochester) will leave Vancouver by the Niagara on February 8, and will arrive at Auckland on February 29, in time for the annual conference of the dominion branch of the British Medical Association. Dr Mayo (founder of the great Rochester clinic) and party intend to stay in New Zealand for three weeks, and will endeavor to see as much of the scenic beauty of the country as is possible in so short a period. Mr F. 0. Price and Mr Wyvem Price (Waimate), Mr W. H. Middlemas (Invercargill), Mr and Mrs H. Mackenzie (Christchurch), Mrs W. Hunter (Wellington), Mr and Mrs W. Mercer (Christchurch), and Mrs Lawrie (Wellington) are guests staying at the Oban Hotel. An Auckland Press Association telefram announces the death of Mr James lilne Mennie, founder of the biscuit firm of Messrs Mennie and Dey. He was b native of Aberdeenshire, and arrived in Auckland in 1869.
