THE OCCULT HIERARCHY

ITS RELATION TO THE WORLD

The object of the Theosophical SViaisty, said Miss E. Hunt at the Theosophical Hall last night, was to make known certain great fundamental teachings of life that are normally kept hidden in secret orders and societies. These teachings wore common to ail religions; but the esoteric truths wore now being made public and scattered broadcast in theosophical literature for the first time for many centuries. It was necessary for the development of mankind at tho present time tiiat lie should know of tho Divine plan of evolution—that life is a mighty school in which man is trained life after life, of the law of cause and effect., the law of Divine Justice. Theosophy taught that man is the master of his own destiny—that man is a divine soul. Tho existence of the occult hierarchy could not bo demonstrated materially, but could be perceived by any who developed the necessary faculty. It was inconceivable that man should struggle in chaos without the guiding hand of some such body. The functions of this hierarchy (called sometimes the Great White Brotherhood) were as those of the heart to the body, tho sun to tho universe, as a reservoir to a city. Tho three aspects of manifested Doity were three mighty beings, channels of tho three typos of spiritual life, given to the brotherhood. Tho guiding of the evolution of civilisation was in their constant care. Wondrous empires rose and gavo their particular lesson to the world ; then, when this lesson had been learnt they were de stroved to mako room for fresh growth. All 'movements working for reform had behind them the support and even the guidance of the Occult Hierarchy. As an indication of this could be seen the development of scientific discovery by everincreasing facility for intercommunication between peoples. By that means the world had changed from a number of isolated hostile nations to a world of friendly peoples in amiable relationship, changing in the more distant future to an all-powerful world empire. Co-operation in the work with this inner government could bo had by all those who qualified themselves for that work. The path to Great White Brotherhood was as open to-day as ever it had been. In tho Theosophical Society, as in most religions of the East, were taught tho definite qualifications to be acquired by tho aspirant, leading him to the path of initiation, and finally to membciship in the brotherhood itself.
