Tlie seventeenth annual report of the. Otago Amateur Swimming Club states; Tho membership of the club remains practically the same as last season—ls0— and as a large number of these nro nonactive members, those members who competed at various interclub carnivals and who patronised tho baths on tho duo nights ai £ to bo commended for the energy shown and interest taken in the club’s affairs. A very successful carnival was held on November 22. All tho events were keenly contested, and some exciting finishes were witnessed. Tho attendance at this carnival came up to expectations and resulted in a small profit. A series oi evening races were swum towards the end of the season in connection with the Shaw Cup competition, and the winner was -Mr J. A. Gascoigne, with Mr D. Patterson second. These races were all well contested and were witnessed by a largo number of interested members. Some races and a diving competition for juniors were held on tho same nights as the Shaw Cup competitions, and resulted in some keen contests. On April 30 Miss Cwitha Shand, who was in Dunedin for tho Otago Championship Carnival, consented to attend club night and to give instruction and advice in connection with swimming strokes and methods. The club was well represented at the Otago Championship Carnival, but only one member succeeded in gaining championship honors. This was Mr P. Z. Harris, who won the 100yds provincial championship, with Mr J. A. Gascoigne a close second. The club was represented at tho New Zealand championships, held in Timaru, by Messrs J. A. Gascoigne, S. Wilson, W. Murray, and R. Allan, with Mr W. A. Jenkins as manager.
