COMPETENCE OP COUNCIL,

GENEVA, September 29. Arising out of the recent Italo-Greck conflict, Count Ishii (Japan) at a meeting of the Council of the League, announced the decision to refer to a Commission of jurists the question of tho council’s competence to deal with disputes between members of the League which were insoluble by friendly methods. Mr Branting (Sweden) expressed a preference for the Court of International Justice.
Lord Robert Cecil urged the necessity of immediately deciding the question at issue.
Dr _ Nansen (Norway) supported Mr Branting. All tlie speakers showed anxiety for due respect for the covenant. Professor M’Neill, representing the Irish Free [Stale, advocated respect tor the League. In adjudication upon the present dispute each member of the Council should bo entitled to nominate Jurists for the Commission, which would report to the December meeting.—Reuter,
