SUGAR COMMISSION

REPORT OF INQUIRY

MR DEAXE EXONERATED

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Press Association.

MELBOURNE, September 29,

It is understood that the Sugar Commission's report exonerates Air Deane, who, the Commissioner states, believed that any part taken in the transactions by him was for the benefit of the Commonwealth.

[After the decision of Federal Cabinet Ministers to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into sugar purchases had been communicated to the secretary of the Prime Minister's Department (Air P. E. Donne), flip latter, following usual practice in such circumstances, voluntarily tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister, and requested to be relieved of his official duties forthwith, pending the result of the investigation. Tin’s request was acceded to by t-ho Prime Minister (Mr Brncc).]
