Dr Kenneth Ross ’returned to Dunedin on Saturday night. Mr L. Barton, of the drainage engineer’s staff, has been appointed assistant engineer to tho Christchurch Drainage Board, and leaves to take up his new position at the end of the present month. There passed away at his residence, Albert street, St. Clair, this morning Dr B. E. Do Lautour in his seventy-third year. Dr Do Lautour was one of the early arrivals of the medical profession in Otago, and lived at Port Chalmers and Tap ami i before finally settling in Dunedin. Ono of his brothers, Dr H. A. Do Lautour, predeceased him some years ago. The other Mr C. A. De Lautour, ono lime M.H.R. for Mount Ida, in a solicitor practising at Gisborne. Tho deceased of late had consulting roonjs in Princes street. He is survived by tho wife of his second marriage. Mr C. H. Breeze, late of the Bank of New Zealand, has entered business for himself.”

A cablegram was received hero on Friday night from New York announcing the sudden death of Mr Aliek (“ Jerome”) Patrick, youngest son of the late Mr William Patrick, at the ago of forty-one, Air Patrick was born in Dunedin, and after leaving school he went in, for dentistry. Ho became associated with an amateur theatrical company bore, and finally decided to go on the stage. Ho went to Sydney, and after playing there for a time with moderate success he, decided to try his fortune in America. He quickly achieved fame in Now York ns a, juvenile lead, supporting the big-star Frances Starr in ‘ Mario Odile’ and other plays. Mr Patrick then went into the pictures, and here again, ho was entrusted with many leading parts. A few years ago Jio came out to his homo town on a visit to his relatives, and l on his return to America went to Los Angeles to fulfil an engagement with a picture company. A cable message from London states that Sir Louis Newton has been elected Lord Mayor of London.
