OTAGO WOMENS CLUB.

PLAY READING CIRCLE,

Those who were prevented by illness or other reason from attending the meeting of the above circle missed a very delightful programme, four short plays being presented, the readings being much appreciated. A delightful Scotch playlet, by Harry Chapin, entitled ‘ Tho Philosopher of Butter Biggens,’ in which Mrs Sawell, Misses Callender and Holland took part, was much enjoyed, as was another sketch by the same writer entitled ‘ Tho Deaf and the Dumb,’ Mesdames Hutchison, Gilkison. Chapman •(chairwoman of the circle), and Aliss Holland being responsible for a clever rendering of tile linos. The third item was ‘ Lonesome Light ’ (Brighthouse). Mesdamcs Morrell, Gilkison, and Aliss Rene Aslin being cast to read in this particularly pleasing playlet. The gem of the evening, in the opinion of those present, was a sketch by Honsman, entitled ‘ The Alan of Business,’ a clever play of words between a chamberlain and his colleague, in which Aliss Reno Aslin spoke the former’s part with great understanding and much elocutionary beauty, and was ably supported by Airs Begg in tho minor part. Among those present were noticed Mesdamcs Doorly, Alason, Begg, Aslin, Dunlop, Cowie, Blair Alason, Wilson, Williamson, Alisses Aslin, Bond, Heywood, Sanderson, Reynolds.
