AWARDS AMENDED
Southland.—Wethers, 561 b and under, 6d. Prime woolly lamhs—42lb and under, 9d: 431 b and over, BAd; second quality lambs, B^d. The Arbitration Court has amended the South Canterbury wool, grain, hide, and manure stoic awards. Ail time worked between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., and between 6.30 a.m. and 8 a.m. will be paid for at time and one-third rates. 'Time worked between noon and 6 p.m. on Saturdays will also be time and one-third rates. Time worked between 10 p.m. and 6.30 a.m. will be paid for at double rates. The order will be effective from December 1, 1922. The Otago and Southland awards have been similarly altered, with the addition that time worked by shiftmen in excess of eight hours will be pair) at time and oue-third rates, and will he effective from December 18 Inst. KILN BURNERS - HOURS. In an interview regarding the hours fixed by the Arbitration Court in the hrickmakers ’ award, .Mr S. E. Wright (secretary at Auckland to the Employers’ Association) stated that fbe hours of the burners had boon agreed to by the union and Die employers in other parts of the dominion without Dm intervention of the court, and Die e.videnrf; of the union's own witnesses showed that the work was by no means laborious, especially ns regards the night shift, when the actual work was not continuous, amounting co from only fifteen to twenty minutes out of every hour. An annual holiday on full pay had also been given to burners working full time for the first time in Die award.
