Tho Governor - General (Viscount Jollicoo) this morning visited the Returned Soldiers’ Club in Moray place, whore ho was met by the president of the association (Rev. Hector Maclean), members of tho executive, and a number of members. The president ■ welcomed Ills Excellency most cordially to the club rooms. In reply Viscount Jollicoo expressed his pleasure at the opportunity of visiting tho club and meeting returned soldiers. Ho praised tho conduct and bravery of Now Zealand troops in tho war, and said he was glad to see a continuance of the comradeship which had been a feature of tho N.Z.E.F. Quo of his most treasured possessions was tho gold badge of life membership of the R.S.A. (which he was wearing), this having boon conferred niton him by tho Christchurch R.S.A. Three cheers wore given for His Excellency, who shook hands with all present, and afterwards inspected the club premises. Mr and Mrs R. Thomson left this morning on route for the Old Country. Mr and Mrs J. H. Meek, Mrs W. J, Meek, and Mrs George Crow left to-day on a visit to Groat Britain. Mr Jean Soqnet, who arrived in the dominion thirty-four years ago, and who has carried on tho business of a dairyman at Mount Cargill for the past twenty-two years, left by the north express to-day en route to his native country, France, which he has not seen since he emigrated to New Zealand. In connection with xMr L. D. Broweti’s retirement, tho Minister of Labor has written thanking him for his very long and faithful services, and intimating that Mr Lightfoot will relieve him on the 15th May.
