(Received April 19, at 11 a.m.) Tho Australasian Tennis Council has decided that, in consequence of Patterson, Anderson, and O’Hara Wood not being available, it will not send an Australian team for the Davis Cup contest. It is understood that the council held that, unless the team is able to reach the challenge tie, the financial burden would be too heavy to justify sending a team away, and the material available is not Class enough to qualify for tho finals. MANAWATU RACES. There is beautiful weather for the concluding day of the Manawatu races. The attendance is largo and the course good. (Received April 19, at 9.10 a.m.) The suggestion of the secretary of the New South Wales Cricket Association that the South African team, before commencing its tour of England early next year, should vi-it Australia is receiving much support in cricket circles and the Press. SOCCER—CHATHAM TEAM. A good deal of interest is being taken by Soccer enthusiasts in the match to bo played on Culling Park on Saturday next between a team from H.M.S. Chatham and a combined city team. Two years ago a strenuous game between tho Jack Tars and an .Otago team resulted in a win for the local team by the narrow margin of one goal, and tho sailors now hope to avenge that defeat on Satu day. Most of their players come from the Home Country, and spectators will therefore have an excellent opportunity of comparing their stylo with that of tho local players.
