TWO WEEKS' SHIPPING

EXCEPTIONALLY BUSY PERIOD. ARRIVALS TOTAL 74,568 TONS. Tho volume of shipping entered .inwards and outwards at the port of Dunedin from January 1 to to-day has been exception- ■ ally heavy, and it is quite evident that tho port is gradually coming back to the prewar status. The port was extremely busy on certain days during the above period, when most of the berths were occupied by ships of all sizes, sailing under several house flags. A noticeable feature was the large number of oversea and intercolonial boats which visited the port. Tho oversea, steamers numbered eight, one .> t which—the Shaw, f-avill, and Albion liner Mnimoa.— made two visits. In all, twenty-ono .steamers arrived during the. fori.n.ight, and twcnty-throo departed. I be mem heirs of the Dunedin Wat<*raiders’ Union were kept busy for most of tile time, and on certain days thero was a short, ago of labor. This resulted in several steamers being delayed in port longer than was anticipated. The men, however, worked welt, and their results were very satisfactory to tho agents and owners. With so many oversea, steamers coming and going, the Harbor Board’s pilot staff and wharf oltioials had a, very nusy time. The amount of cargo landed at the Dunedin wharves during the fortnight ran into thousands of tons. Goods of all descriptions from Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne. Singapore. Samarang, Banbury, New York, Liverpool, London, Montreal, Halifax, and. tho Mediterranean and Eastern ports were fended; while .several vessels loaded wool, flax, and other dominion products for American, Canadian, and European ports. Following is a list of the steamers which arrived at Dunedin and Port Chalmers between January 1 and to-day :
