THE SHIPPING TROUBLE
MEETING OF SEAMEN. [Per Unitrd Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH. December 1, A special meeting of 300 seamen at Lyttelton to-day lasted nearly four hours. Mr G. Adams, a member of the executive, stated that tho meeting was called to discuss private affairs, and ho had no statement to make. The Paloona, with a scratch crew, arrived at Lyttelton this morning, and leaves for Wellington this evening. LIMITING THE ISSUE. SYDNEY, December 1. (Received December 1, at 11.55 a.m.) Tlie new , Merchant Service Guild officially repudiated the attitude adopted by tho members of tho Seamen’s Guild. It stated that it would abide by tho award, and would do all in its power not to be involved in a dispute, particularly ■in one in which it is not concerned. The Institute of Marino Engineers issued a statement saying that the quarrel is between the seamen and the company. TAHTII GREW GIVE NOTICE. SUBSTITUTES BEING OBTAINED. [Per United Peess Association.] WELLINGTON, December 1. Tho raw of tho Tahiti gave notice of their intention to leave the steamer on arrival this morning. A now crew is being obtained, and the steamer is expected to sail at her due time—3 p.m. on. Monday.
