SAlLED.—November 29. Corinna, s.s. (6.5 p.m.), 1,51.9 tons, Edge, for New Plymouth via ports. Calm, s.s. (11.20 p.m.), 890 ions, M‘LacMan, for Wanganui via ports. November 30. Rama, s.s. (0.10 a.m.), 610 ions, Gartner, for Wellington and Napier. Tho Waipori arrived at Lyttelton, to-day from Westport. She sails to-morrow ior Timaru. Oaraaru, and Dunedin. The Kind is due on Wednesday from Gisborne via Bluff. Tho Wingatui is expected to arrive here on Sunday from Auckland via ports. She Is to sail the next day for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland, Tho steamer Koronjre,, en route from Hull to Australian ports, passed Gibraltar on November 28. Intending ferry passengers who have accommodation reserved per s.s. Wahino up to December 14 will please note that same has now been cancelled, and that similar accommodation, has been reserved on s.s. Maori -ono day later. The Storm is due liere.on Monday from Lyttelton, and is to sail Hie same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. Dalgcty and Co. advise that tho ketch Rira is to leave Auckland on December 12 with a cargo of explosives for Wellington and Dunedin. She will afterwards Toad hero for Auckland. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. advise that the steamer Matoppo is to leave Lyttelton to-morrow for Dunedin to discharge part cargo from New York. The vessel will complete discharge at Australian ports. Tho Union Company’s freighter \Vaihemo is now expected here on Saturday from San Francisco and northern ports to discharge part cargo. , She wall sail about Monday next for Timaru and Sydney. The Somerset, of the S.N. Company’s Line, arrived at Dunkirk on November 14 from Australian ports, en routo to London and Liverpool. Tho Port Bowen, of the 0. and D, Line, arrived at Dunkirk on November 15 from Australian ports, cn route to Hull, London, and Swansea. Tho Port Caroline, of the same lino, also arrived at Dunkirk on November 15 from Australian ports, cn route to London, Liverpool, and Antwerp. The Matakana is to leave Bluff to-mor-row for loading at Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Auckland. She is to sail from Auckland about December 19 for London via Montevideo.

The Rimutaka, from Southampton, arrived at Wellington last evening, and will later visit Lyttelton, Timaru, Napier, and Wellington, She is to sail from tho Last-named port about December 28 for Southampton via Panama. THE FERRY SERVICE,' The Maori arrived at Lyttelton at 7 a.m. to-day from Wellington, and mails and passengers connected with the 8.45 a.m, express for Dm south. SUFFOLK’S MOVEMENTS. The Suffolk, now at Auckland from London, will continue discliarge at Napier and Port Chalmers for the New Zealand Shipping Company. She will load under the agency of the Federal Lino at Port Chalmers, Lyttelton, New Plymouth, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland for West of England ports. PORT KEMBLA’S FAST PASSAGE. The Port Kembla (C. and D. Line) accomplished a non-stop run from- Dover (o Melbourne, a. distance of 11,815 miles, in 28j days. Except for a strong gal© and high cross seas encountered off Fremantle on tho slh hist., delightful weather favored the trip. Captain R. Craven is in command. C. AND D. STEAMERS FOR OUTPORTS. 1 Messrs J. W. Swift and Co. advise that tho Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamers, which previously called at Die main New Zealand ports only, will in future cal! at one outport. The following are the sailings from London ;—The Port Campbell, on January 24, for Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and Timaru. A steamer on March 28, for Auckland, Wellington, and Bluff. A 1 steamer on Mav 30, for Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and Now Plymouth; and a steamer on August 1, for Auckland, Wellington, and Napier. BRAVE RESCUE FROM SHIP. The bravo conduct of James Doherty, a trimmer on tiro former troopship Hororata, recently at Melbourne, was referred to at the Wilhamatewn Court by Mr E. \V. Jackson, J.P.. when adjourning the inquiry into the death of William Nowell. Newell bad been a cook on the steamer Monn-ro. but had been paid off a day or two before the vessel was fumigated at Willianirtown. Unknown to the quaranline authorities, or the officers of tho ship, >••• was left on board. His cries attracted the attention of Doherty, who saw Newell

through a, porthole on the starboard side. Rushing from the main dock to the shelter deck, he knocked away tho barriers that had been placed over Dio alleyway,' and proceeded along it till he was temporarily forced back by tho fumes of. sulphur dio.vido. Defying Dio fumes, he reached Newell and earned him into tho freak air. Doherty then called for help, and ten men responded. They tied a rope round him and, lowered Mm through a skylight to the cook’s galley. There ho took Die rope from his own body and fastened it round the body of tho assistant cook, Richard Young, who was unconscious. Ho remained alsy until Nowell had been taken out. When the rescue party found Doherty ho was unconscious. The three men were taken to tho Williamstown Hospital. Newell died, and Young is still in the institution. Mr” Jackson said that he intended to take steps to have Doherty’s conduct brought under notice.
