WELLINGTON LADIES' TOURNEY. MISS BELL IVINS CHAMPIONSHIP. Tho Wellington Provincial Ladies’ Golf Championship was concluded in wet weather on Saturday, when the final. Miss Watson v. Miss Bell, was played. The driving and approach shots of each player were good, but the putting was weak. The contestants were all square at the seventh hole, and Miss Bell was 2up at the turn. The players were equal at the eleventh hole, and again at the sixteenth, but Miss Bell won the last two and tho championship. [Special to the ‘ Star.’] PALMERSTON N., October 7. Tho finals in the Wellington provincial championship were completed in wet weather and on a heavy course.. Miss Bell and Miss Watson had a close finish, the former winning by the small margin of 1 up. The play was not so good as in the previous matches, and they wore throwing holes at each other all the way. Miss Bell was not so steady on her long game, but accurate in the short. Miss Watson was putting rather badly occasionally, hut driving better than Miss Bell. Tho presentation of prizes in the afternoon finished a very successful tournament. WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP. PURSE OF 3,000 DOLL AES. At Hulton (Pennsylvania) Hagen is loading Sarazen, 2 up, at the end of 35 holes of a 72-hole match to decide the world’s golf championship for a. purse of 3,000 dollars—the biggest in golfing history. Tho remaining 36 holes will be played on Saturday at Rye (New York). —A. and N.Z. Cable. ’AT BALMACEWEN. The St. Andrew’s Gross Competition, which was held on. the Balmacowen links on Saturday afternoon, was won by B. P>. Lambert, with a score of 7 up. The best cards returned wore :—R. B. Tho An.zac Cup Competition, which was played the previous Saturday, was won by F. W. Humphries (North Otago) with the score of 74 —5—69. AT ST. CLAIR. A medal match was played on the St. Glair Links on Saturday, the best cards being as follow F. G. Ward 93, less 24, 69; W. Wratlier 93, less 24, 69; G. Lyttelton 94, less 24, 70; W. Clayton 82, less 10, 72; J. K. Davidson 98, less 24, 74; C. B. Wight 74, plus 1, 75; H. Carrington 99, less 24, 75; J. T. Harding 98, less 24, 75.
