LAWN TENNIS
OPENING OF SEASON. The Taieri Club was favored with a beautiful' day for tho opening of the season on Saturday. There was a large attendance of members and friends, and many visitors were present from Dunedin. In the course of the afternoon the secretary (Mr William Harper) was presented with a clock and a pair of servers. The present was given to mark the club’s appreciation of his work as secretary, and also on the occasion of his approaching marriage. A dance was held in the evening, and this pioved a pleasant ending to an enjoyable day’s sport. There' was an attendance of some ninety persons at the opening of the Port Chalmers Club's season. Tho mayor (Mr John Watson) performed the ceremony, and tho courts were fully occupied all afternoon. During the afternoon tho lady members of the club served afternoon tea, and Messrs Pennington and Matson provided music.
