ATTACK WITH A KNIFE
TWO' MEN INJURED. A Gisborne message (despatched yesterday) states that as the result of stabbing injuries two men were admitted to Cook Hospital on Saturday. The affair happened : at Matawhero, where George Monkhouse, aged sixty-eight years of age, and single, was living with William Campbell, who is about forty years of age and married. Campbell is manager o? Mr F. Hall’s station, and. Monkhouse was staying with him till ho got a job. About 9 o’clock on Saturday night Monkhouse returned home, and, after muttering something, sprang at Campbell and stabbed the latter three times in the back. He then turned the knife, which had a blade 2jin long, • into his own' abdomen. Mrs. Campbell went to her husband’s aid, and one child rushed outside screaming. A Chinese employee secured Monkhouse and sent for the poliice._ The injured men passed a satisfactory night.
