Mrs Johnstone presided at the monthly meeting of the committee of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children, The treasurer recorded a life membership subscription of £25 from Dr Barnett. The Plunket nurse for South Dunedin distinct reported:—Number of babies on the list, 352; number of babies breastfed (including partly), 127; number of new cases for the month (babies only), 22; advice given to expectant mothers, 5; number of visits paid to homes, 258; number of visits paid to Plunket rooms, King Edward street, South Dunedin, 410. The Plunket nurse for Anderson JBay district and outstations reported:—-Num-ber of babies on the list, 102; number of new cases for the month (babies _ only), 10; number of babies breast-fed (including partly), 33; number of visits paid to homes, 183; number of visits paid to_ Plunket rooms—Stuart street 34, Mosgiel 52, Port Chalmers 12. Visits were paid to outstations during the month as under: Mosgiel 4, Wingatui 1, Abbotsford 4, Green Island! 4, Burnside 4, Port Chalmers 4, Eavcnsboumo 4. The Plunket nurses reported that heavy colds were still prevalent among the mothers and babies visited. The President, reported that daffodils from Lawrence, promised by Messrs Simpeon and Hart for sale in aid 1 of the society, would bo available about the middle of October. It was decided also to hold ■a street sale of produce, cakes, etc., on the date arranged for the sale of daffodils. The President reported briefly upon the main points dealt with at the general conference of the society held in Wellington in July, and intimated that a printed report of the proceedings of the conference •would bo available shortly. _ The following sub-committees were pointed for the current year;—For Ka-ri-tane-Harris Hospital upkeep and domestic affairs; for finance, buildings, and works; Karitane-llarris Hospital Garden and Grounds Committee; Committee for Nurses’ and Probationers’ Needs and Interests; Central Plunket Room Committee; South Dunedin Plunket Room Committee ; Sewing Committee; Flower Committee.
