EX-KAISER’S MEMOIRS

Mr Clinton Brainard, head of M'Clure’s (the American publishers), after securing the world rights of the ex-Kaiser’s memoirs for £50,000, arranged with M. Vdviani and, Mr Asquith to write volumes in reply. It .is reported here that one of the most sensational chapters in the ex-Kaiser’s book deals with his offer of temporal power to the Pope in the event of the latter being successful in peace mediation. —A. and N.Z. Cable. DULL AND DISHONEST. LONDON, August 17. (Received August 19, at 8.55 a.m.) Under the heading ‘ Comparative History,’ the ex-Kaiser has published what tho ‘ Daily_Mail’ calls a “dull collection of dates with tho object of proving that Germany was not a sheep in wolf’s clothing.” Tho ‘Mail’ states: “Tho dates are so cooked as to make the book worthless. It is a dighohest book, and must have been compiled by particularly' stupid people.”—A. and N.Z. Cable.
