LONDON. August 17. (Received August 18. at 1 p.tn.) The ‘ Dailv Mail’ states that the Air Ministry has'placcd a first series of orders to itho'value of JB3CO.OCO as part'ot a echemo for 500 machines for homo defence. Tho machines ordered include a great allmetal machine, weighing_ fifteen tons. Another is an improved aerial troop transport to accommodate twenty-five soldiers, with equipment. Others include a huge multi-engined Comber, which can man-a-uvro; a small scout metal single-seater, to be a fighter fleeter than_ anything yet built; and several living ships capable of flying at a high speed and riding rough seas.—A. and N.Z.
