BURNSIDE STOCK SALES

PRIME QUALITY SHEEP AND CATTLE. PRICES SLIGHTLY EASIER. A feature of to-day’si sale at Burnside was the excellent quality,.df the sheep and fat cattle offered. The quality of the sheep, which, were forward in largo mimbei\s, was much above tho .standard; ot late ya.rdin.gs. As there is no outlet for export purposes, butchers were practically the only competitors for sheep, and prices in consequence were from Is to Is 6d per head lower than late rates, although m some instances the reduction was even (Treater. Giving to the abundance, of cattle now being sent forward, the quality, of which is very good 1 for this season otdhe year, prices were easier than late quotations. There was very little life in the pig sale, and prices were about on a par with last week’s rates. There, was a good yarding of dairy cattle, bet the demand was somewhat slack. The cattle market shows no improvement in the quality offered or value. Sheen.—A large yarding, numbering 3,111 head, comprising mostly wethers. Very few ewes were forward. Tho yarding* included many animals of excellent quality. Competition was fairly brisk, being confined to butchers, and prices were easier. Extra prime heavy-weight wethers realised from 51s 3d to 3os 6d; prime, 24s to 29s 9d; medium, 20s to 23s 3d; light and unfinished sorts from 17s to 19s. Prime owes realised up to 25s 3d ; medium to 17s 6d : light and aged up to 14s 3d 1 . Hofgcls.—Only a few pens were offered, and tlicse were sold up to 21s per head. Fat Cattle.—A large yarding, numbering 284 head, of excellent quality. There was a good demand at the opening of the sale, and prices were fully ICs per head below last week’s rates. On account of the largo number forward it was not expected that prices would firm during tho progress of the sale. Prime bullocks realised from £ll to £l3 10s; medium, £8 15s to £lO 10s; light and unfinished sorts from £5 10s upwards. Prime heifers realised! from £7 to £8 ICs; medium, £5 10s to £6 10s; light and aged from £4 upwards. Dairy Cattle.—A good yarding was offered*, but the demand was somewhat slack. Best dairy cows realised from £9 to £lO 10s, and l others from £3 10s to £5. Store Cattle.—A small yarding wag offered. With the exception of one pen of four-year-old l bullocks from the Middlemarch district, the yarding was of poor quality. The Middlemarch cattle realised up to £6 9s per head, There was very little competition for other sorts, and! prices showed 1 no improvement. Pigs.—A medium yarding, all classes being represented. Several pons of good baooners from the Oano.ni district claimed attention, and wore disposed of at satisfactory prices. Competition for tho bulk of tho yarding was somewhat slack, and prices wore about on a. par with late rates. Best baconere realised from sid to 6d per lb, and host porkers from. 7id to 8d per lb.
