YESTERDAY’S PARLIAMENT

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The Hon. G.' M. Thomson gave notice of his intention to introduce the Animals’ Protection, Amendment Bill. The Naval Defence Amendment Bill and the Land Drainage Amendment Bill were read a second time pro forma, and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. •Tlie Land Tax Annual Bill was received from the Lower House. The Standing Orders were suspended, and the Bill was put through all its stages and passed without amendment. The Local Bodice’ Loans Amendment Bill was committed, and amendments made by the Statutes Eevision .Committee agreed to. Sir Wm. Fraser stated that the Government intended to fix. the amounts that might be raised by individual local bodies for tlie relief of unemployment.—The Bill was read a third time and passed. HOUSE OP REPRESENTATIVES, The Hon. W. Downie Stewart said-'the Reciprocal Customs Treaty with Australia had) not yet passed through Parliament in either country. As soon as it had passed, then it was only a mailer of fixing a date convenient to both countries on which it would come into operation.
