THE ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, to bo presented at the annual meeting to be held in ’Wellington on August _ 23, shows the membership at 1,763, an increase of sixteen for the year. The annual examination covering ‘the commercial bookkeepers’ and professional courses took place in November, 1,207 sitting for complete or sectional passes. completed the full course. For the accountants’ preliminary examination 233 candidates presented themselves, and of these 140 succeeded in either completing the examination or gaining a sectional pass. For tho commercial bookkeepers’ examination 456 candidates presented themselves, and of these seventy succeeded in gaining a complete pass, thereby becoming entitled to registration as commercial bookkeepers. A supplementary examination was, as usual, held in the month of Alarch, at which 111 candidates presented themselves to complete their examinations. Of these thirty-three were successful, thus bringing the total successful candidates for the year up to 100, all of these being eligible for membership of the society. The usual examination for certificate of proficiency in bookkeeping accounts, business organisations and methods was-hold in November last, in conjunction with tho professional examinations conducted by the University of New Zealand, 260 , cadidates presenting themselves at this examination. Of these twenty-six pa-ssed, the percentage of passes being 10 per cent. The council again decided to subsidise commercial tuition «it university colleges, and resrived that grants of £IOO each be made ts Auckland University College, Canterbury College, and Otago University. The Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand assists tho society in meeting these subsidies, and to this end forwarded the sum of £175. Of this amount £IOO was for the year 1921, and the balance on behalf of the year under review’.

Tho income and expenditure account discloses a surplus for the year of £493 3s 2d, and the -accumulated fund stands at £3,520 3s sd.
