DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY

Tho monthly meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery was held in First Church this morning, tho Moderator (the Rev. W. Fairlio Evans) presiding. CORRESPONDENCE, Tho St. Clair Church Deacons’ Court wrote drawing attention to tho increasing assessment for General Assembly expenses, and asked that tho Assembly should consider reducing the number of delegates. Tho Clerk said that St. Clair was assessed lower than it should have been owing to a mistake by the treasurer, but tho letter would be sent on to the Assembly, as it might act as a brake. tho Roslvn, Session wrote protesting against The licensing proposals as brought forward by tho Government. —Tho Clerk said that as the licensing legislation, would not bo introduced this,* session the better would be seat on to tho Temperance Committee.

Tho Rev. Mr Jupp, convener of the Publications Committee, placed before tho Presbytery a letter from his committee asking the Presbytery’s co-operation in a campaign to increase the circulation of the ‘ Outlook.’ He said that even 3,000 new subscribers would put the paper on a paying basis. Ho naked tho individual members to push tho paper in their congregations.—A sub-committee consisting of the Rove. Hutchinson, Simpson, Tipler, Messrs J. W. Todd and J, Arthur was set up to prepare a campaign. A letter was received from the Council of Congregational Churches in which was expressed appreciation of tho Presbytery’s efforts for church union, and stating, that, as invited, the Rev. W. Saunders and Mr Peter Barr were elected to tho Presbytery's Public Questions Committee.

CALL TO RAVENSBOURNE. The Rev. Professor Davies, on behalf of the congregations of Ravens bourne and St. Leonards,* thanked the Presbytery for coming to their aid during the vacancy of the charge. The congregations, ho said, had kept together, and there was a spirit of harmony prevailing. Specially had there neon unanimity in extending a call to the Rev. R. L. Walker. A deputation consisting of Messrs Chirk, Dickison, M’Kinnon, and M'Donald, representatives of tho two congregations, appeared in support of tills call, and intimated that tho call was a unanimous one. Tho Presbytery decided to sustain tho call, and that the induction sendee be held on August 14 at Ravenebourne. GENERAL. Leave of absence was granted to tho Rev. Professor Davies and tho Rev. H. H. Barton; to tho former’ to enable him to take a trip to tho Homeland, and to tho latter as he was appointed foreign mission secretary by tho General Assembly. The Rev. W. Scorgio was appointed moderator of the Scad ill-Warrington charge. Tho reports of the visitations by the various commissions were read and received. Tho Rev. Dr Cameron moved that a special committee be appointed to promote the formation of sub-branches of the League of Nations, and to take steps to secure tho co-operation of other Clrarches with a view to preventing war and securing the establishment of enduring pence.—Tho Revs. H. Maclean, Tippler, Hutchinson, W r . F. ■ Evans, and Messrs J. J. Clark and H. <J. Campbell were appointed.
