JASCHA SPIVAKOVSKY
“Of all the pianists I have heard in recent years.” wrote the critic of the London ‘ Daily Telegraph,’ “no one seems to have more temperamental affinity with tho very greatest than Jascha Spivakoysky. There is in his art something personal and exclusive, rare and imaginative, that cannot be defined in English, liberal as it is in words of fine meaning. I can only sit back after one hearing of him and boldly express my appreciation by calling him a genius.” This is only one of the exceptional opinions passed on this artist, who is to commence a series of two concerts at His .Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday and Saturday next under the direction of Messrs J. and N. Tait. Jascha Spivakovsky is establishing a record for the length of his visit to Australia. He has already appeared for over four months, and at tho conclusion of his dominion tour will again return to Australia for a further series of concerts. He has everywhere been acclaimed as being one of the most brilliant pianists yet presented to music-lovers. On Saturday evening he concluded a scries of five concerts in the Town Hall, Auckland. The ‘Herald,’ speaking of his visit there, says: “No further proof of Spivakovsky’s ability to capture his auditors could bo cited- than the scene of enthusiasm which took place at tho close, when, after a treble recall, which compelled tho pianist to again delight his hearers with ‘Hie Musical Box’ (leardoff), the audience was once more increasingly insistent. Repeated bowings were of no avail, and Spivakovsky was finally persuaded to take his seat once more. After a matchless performance of Goddard's ‘ Valso Chromatique,’ tho audience reluctantly dispersed.” Spivakovsky’s dominion tour is proving one long series of triumphs, tho Press up north being unanimous in tho praise of “ this genius at the piano.” The box pland are at Tho Bristol.
