The following appointments are notified py the Education Board: —Mr D. R. Rlyth, secondary assistant, Lawrence District High School; Miss V. G. MlLean, sole teacher, Oturehua; Miss S. R. Renz, mistress, Lawrence District High School. Colonel Young, commandant, for the South Island, and Colonel Symon, chief staff officer, arrived by’yesterday’s express on examination and insipectional duly. ■ . The employees of Hillside Railway Workshops took farewell yesterday of Mr X. G. Ward, chief clerk and timekeeper, who has been promoted and transferred to Petone. On behalf of the staff and the general body of employees Mr Johnston (manager), handed to Sir Ward a well-filled wallet, a case of pipes, and a lady’s handbag for his wife. The Ho&pital Board last evening passed a vote of condolence with Sir John Roberts in the death of Lady Roberts. The mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas) is expected to return this evening from Wc!iingtoo. •
