A semi-official communique states that Bavaria’s action has created a serious political situation. The Central Government is determined resolutely to protect its rights. The Reich Munich Corporation condemned the Diet’s action.—A. and N.Z. Cable.

REPARATIONS PAYMENTS. BRITISH TRADERS’ VIEWS. LONDON. -Inly 26.': The National Association of Merchants and Manufacturers has issued a manifesto to the effect — 1. That Germany should be given such a respite in respect to cash reparations as would enable her to restore order in her public finances. 2. Tho cash obligations imposed by the Treaty of Versailles should'be definitely fixed at the earliest possible moment at a figure within her capacity to pay. 5. In order to ascertain this figure, tho International Bankers’ Corporation should resume its inquiries and report. 4. Tho abatement or abolition of import duties, especially those necessitated by (he indemnity, might form part of vho return asked from Germany for a settlement of tho reparations question, —A. and N.Z. MONARCHIST PLOTS,

‘THE AVENGING HAND.”

The police in Hamburg discovered a secret Monarchist society known as the Avenging Hand. It was founded by the notorious reactionary, Captain Ruben. Papers seized indicate that the objects of the society are the destruction of the republic and the restoration of the monarchy. Plans for seizing arms, tools, and explosives were discovered. A number of Russian ex-officers, ostensibly working as dock laborers, who are implicated have been dismissed.—‘Times.’
