HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held last evening, and attended by Mr W. E. S. Knight (chairman), Mrs Jackson, Mrs Macfic, Mrs Macdonald, Messrs W. T. Talboys, W. J. Dovo, D. Larnach, R. A. Rodger, and A. F. Quolch. The Director-General of Health wrote that tho Minister had approved of the grant of £SOO per annum-to the St. John Ambulance Associat ion.—Received.

The Secretary of the Taranaki Hospital Board wrote that his-board had passed the following resolutions:—“That this board protests against tho regulations recently gazetted under the Land Agents' License Act whfexeby license fees will not bo paid to hospital boards as in the past.” The Otago Board was asked to give this matter its support by making representation to the Minister* and the local members of Parliament.—The Chairman said that this matter was brought up at the Conference of Hospital Boards at Wellington, and he thought it would' bo futile to proceed further with it.—Mr Rodger asked what was the difference between a land agent and auctioneer. It was difficult to understand why a land agent’s fee should he different from that of an auctioneer’s.—The Chairman -said it was a paltry thing on the part of tho Government.—Mr Quelch said ho understood that the whole thing was now fixed by nn Act of Parliament.—Mr Rodger thought that local bodies should protest, lie moved'—“ That tho board take exception to the Bill as it stood at present, and ask members, representing their immediate district to' take tho necessary steps to bring tho matter under the notice of the Government.”—Tho Chairman remarked that this meant the endorsement of the resolution of the Taranaki Board.—The motion was carried.

The Secretary of tho Nelson Hospital Board' wrote that his board had decided- “ That hospital boards be communicated ■with suggesting that loans for capital- purposes be consolidated each year and obtained per medium of the Government on tho London market.”—Referred to the Finance Committee.

Tho Secretary of the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board wrote asking support of the following resolution carried by his board: “That representations be made to the Minister of Health willT.i. view to having established in New Zealand one or more institutions for the reception of incurable consumptives.”—Received. A report submitted by the secretary (Mr Jacobs) on the proceedings of the conference of the •foiu' main hospital boards recently held at Wellington was referred to tho Finance Committee.
