SPECIAL COUPE'ITiRJN FOR JUNIORS. CHRISTIAN BROTHERS WITHDRAWN. The controversy which has been in process for some time about the exclusion of tile Christian Brothers onr! oilier private schools from the primary schools’ competition was revived and closed last night in a letter from Mr G. Stuart Thomson, as under : SECONDARY SCHOOLS FOOTBALL. “In accordance with the arrangements made with your committee, a meeting was held last night (April 26), when the following delegates were present;—W. Alexander (Technical School), C. C. Robinson I.M'Glaslnm College), Bro. Bowler (Chrislinu Brothers), IT. W. Janies and G. S. Thomson ()toys’ High School). The following motions were agreed to unanimously;—(l) That this meeting resolves, subject to the approval of the 0.R.F.U., to form itself into a Secondary Schools Junior Rugby Association; the object of thus association shall be to promote a competition among the junior boys of these schools, especially for boys unable to play in the president’s grade. (2) That there shall be two grades or sections—namely, an A grade, confined to boys of not more than Bst weight on May 1 in each year, and B grade, for boys not more than 7st on the same date. It was also resolved ’that; Messrs Thomson and James draft a constitution for the above association and a. set of rules to govern the competition, and to submit the same to another meeting to be held on Wednesday. May 3. It is expected that some six teams will bo entered in the A grade and eight or nine in the B grade, as follows: —A grade—Technical School 1, High School 3, Christian Brothers 2; R grade —Technical School 1, High School 3, MTllashan College 1, Christian Brothers 3 or 4. Other schools, such as Port Chalmers and Mosgicl District High Schools, may join the association if they so desire. It is proposed that the first matches m this grade shall lie played on Saturday, June 10.” On (he same .subject Bvo. Bowler wrote as follows:—“Re the secondary schools’ competition, I have gone into the matter thoroughly, and have c’mc to the conclusion that the competition will not give a game to the majority of the hoys in the school. The primary boys interest me ns well as the secondary boys. In order to give the boys who were debarred from the junior primary grades a- game, I have decided to von a private competition in the schools. To mate the competition interesting T must conrcmrnfo on that competition • alone. Herewith I return the football sent to the school by your executive.” The Chairman : Docs that moan he has withdrawn all his team from the competition ? It was generally agreed that that was what line letter meant. It was decided to bold the matter over and to forward a copy of P.ro.
