[Pee United Peess Association.]
WELLINGTON, March 25,
An important conference was held at Parliament Buildings yesterday in connection with tho claims of tho Arawa tribe to the Lakes of Rotorua, in tho HotLakes District; also to certain fishing and other rights. Sir P. D. Bell, AttorneyGeneral, has beef? dealing with this subject for some considerable time past, and during his recent visit to the district he met various representatives of the Natives. At the conference the Prime Minister and Sir Francis Bell represented the Government. The representatives of the Natives were tho Hon. A. T. Ngata, M.P., F. Earle, K.C., and Mr R. L. Levin. It is understood that an agreement in regard to this long-standing dispute was arrived at. Reporters were informed that the settlement was one that should prove satisfactory to both Crown and Natives, but detailed terms of the settlement were not yet available for publication.
