NEW PRISON CAMP
[Pan United Press Association.]
WELLINGTON, March 25. Tho Prisons Department has acquired a few thousand acres on the shores of Lake Taupo for the purpose of establishing a new prison farm, a few miles from the township of Tokaanu. Thu land is chiefly pumice country, but includes a considerable area of bush, and is flat to undulating. The Hon. K. P. Lee stated that by means of prison labor the land would bo prepared for settlement purposes. Tho intention of the Prisons Department is to develop it block by block, moving temporary huts and buildings forward as development proceeds. Some of the huts are already up, and when the camp has been fully established more prisoners will be drafted there and work will go on steadily.
