CHRISTCHURCH, Stanfli 25, Tho action of tored members of tho New Brighton Surf Club in refusing to compete aa members of tho Canterbury roprosontattvo team for the Mfclaon Shield liie-aaving contest at tho Now Zealand championship mooting at Wellington last month pro voiced a lively discussion at tho mooting of the Canterbury fluff Association, Tho members concerned had been selected for the Canterbury team, but instead, represented their club at toe contort, and' New Brighton won too shield. The three members, in too correspondence read, gave reasons for their action. During the course of a long- discussion it was emphasised that a principle was at stake, in that in sport it, was recognised that when a person was selected to represent his province he must do so unless he had sound reason for refusing.

It was resolved tout the association docs not consider tho explanations offered by the tlu'ee members satisfactory, from a Surfing standpoint, to the association, and that they be censured for their action. An amendment that toe members bo suspended from the date of the offence was defeated, as was an amendment that too association view with displeasure the action of the three members, and expressed regret for lateness in tho adoption of tho Canterbury team. Before too motion was put the New Brighton Club delegates withdrew from tho meeting.
