Messrs M. J. Fordo and F. Hunt have been elected delegates of tho Wellington Railway Officers’ Institute to the Dominion Conference in May. Mr G. E. Godber has been appointed, to act as General Secretary in New Zealand to the Independent Order of Oddfellows (Manchester Unity), in place of tho lata Mr John Kershaw, pending tho next meeting of the Biennial Movable Committee to bo hold early next month. Tho senior members of the staff of Brown, Ewing, and Co. assembled in tho Savoy Lounge on Thursday evening to bid farewell to Miss Robins, who is leaving on an extended trip to England and .Scotland. During tho evening an interesting and varied programme, comprising vocal and instrumental solos, quartets, recitations, and monologues, was presented by members of tho staff and friends. After supper Mr James Brown (chairman of directors) presented Miss Robins witn a well-filled purse as a token of their appreciation of her long and valuable services Tendered to the firm, and in a most felicitous speech voiced many expressions of sentiment and good-will which prompted tho gathering and the gift. On behalf of the staff, tho manager (Air S. F. Benton) presented Miss Robins with a gold wrist watch as an expression of the esteem in which she was held by all, card expressed tho wish that tho recipient would have a most enjoyable holiday. The proceedings terminated with the singing of tho National Anthem and ‘Auld Lang Syne.’ Sir Robert and Lady Stout left Dunedin this morning for Wellington. Bishop Richards came from Invercargill this morning. Mr J. D. Ritchie, Land Purchase Controller, was a passenger by to-day’s northern train, bound for Wellington. Mr David Mills, brothor of Sir James Mills, baa been paying a visit to relatives in Dunedin, and left to-day on his way to Sydney, where be Is now settled. Mr F. A. Crimp has received advice feat ho has passed the B.A. examination. On tho eve of hia departure for England .and Europe Sir Francis Bell was presented, at a Cabinet meeting yesterday, with a travelling rug by tho Prime Minister and. his colleagues.—Wellington telegram. ‘John o' Groats Journal ’ of February 3, 1922, contains a three-column appreciation of Sir John Ross, by Dr B.
