ORDER OF BUFFALOES

There was a full attendance of the members of the Lodge No. 1 on Tuesday evening last for the raising to the third degree of Bro. James R. If. Carpenter, Grand Primo of Otago. Prirao A. S. Cook, P.G.S., opened the lodge, and after two candidates were proposed and accepted he handed over the lodge to “ Sir ” Fredrick Powell, K.O.M.G.L.E. for the installation. The following brothers formed the guard of honorßros. Parker, Herd, Hardy, Boyea, Fibbes, Ford, Quinn, Bennet; bearer of insignia, Bro. F. J. Hill; bearer of regalia, Bro. S. Haig, C.M. ; bearer of jewels, Bro, A. Brown, C.C.; sponsors, Primo W. Bently, D.G., Primo and Bro. M‘Kay, G.Ta. ; installing grand officer, “Sir” F. Powell, K.0.M.; director of ceremonies, D.G.P. Walter Bently, C.P.; S.P., A. S. Cook, C.P.; C.M., G. Penny, C.P. : C. Sec., Bro R. Fenton j C. Minstrel, Primo Fitzloy; A. 8., A. Pidduck, C.P. The ceremony was carried out in an impressive manner, and the installing officer complimented the brethren upon the manner each officer had carried out his duties. It also gave him great pleasure, he said, to attend tho lodge to confer this great honor on so worthy a Buff, as the Grand Prime of Otago, who had over twenty years of good service to his credit in the cause of Btiffaloism, and who had held many important offices in the order. It was because of his great services that he was receiving the K.0.M., and he trusted that Bro.. Carpenter would be spared to them as Knight of the Order for many years to come. “Sir” James 11. H. Carpenter, Grand Primo of Otago, then thanked the lodge lor the great honor that had been conferred upon him by the Otago Lodge Fo. 1. He had always been a worker for the good of the order. It gave him great pleasure as the Primo Founder to see their numbers increased by an average of ton per month, and it was owing to their rapid growth that they had found it necessary to remove to a much larger lodge room. In conclusion, “ -Sir ” James referred to the loss by departure of their worthy Minstrel, Primo Fitzroy, who had 50 ably carded out this duties. Primo Fitzroy thanked all present for the happy evenings ho had spent, and said he hop to see the lodge still going strong upon his return. ‘ Auld Lang Syne,’ with musical honors, was then given. Bro. A. S. Hope was elected Minstrel and Organist to the lodge. A lengthy musical programme was given by the following brethren:—Penny, Bennet, Quinn, Kyle, Carpenter, Barrow, Haig, and Hope.
