MARRIAGE DEFENCE LEAGUE
DEPUTATION OF CLERGYMEN. [Special to the ‘■Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, March 23. A deputation of leading Anglican clergymen waited on the Brothers’ Union Conference, and outlined a scheme which is on foot to form a marriage defence league in New Zealand. Tho objects proposed by tho league are (1) To uphold the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong and indissoluble union, for better or for worse, of one man with one woman, to the exclusion of all others on either side. (2) To resist all attempts to legalise any departure from tho Christian standard.
The methods to bo adopted are partly educational and partly political. Under the latter head it was explained that moral questions were often ignored in politics, because . people who feel keenly about them seldom press them upon politicians. The conference promised sympathetic consideration to the scheme.
