SCHOOL BOOKS AGAIN.
TO THE EDITOR.. Sir, —In regard to the letter in tonight's 'Star' under the heading of 'Dear School Books,' why did not "Struggle!'" fay how long ago it was since ho went to school? It is ;orly years since I went to school, and my parents did not have to pay 12s 6d per quarter for each child. If they had Wn obliged to do so some of us would Have got very littlo education. Just imagine a man with twelve of a family and getting 7s per day paying 12s 6d per quarter, besides books. 1 notice "Straggler" does not mention anything about lv.s own children, so I take it ho has none to educate, and is not in a position to write on the subject. I have seven children to go through the school, and know what it is. There are not only books which are constantly needed, but pens, pencils, rubbers, set squares, rulers, etc., which are twice as dear as they used to be. Besides, there is a constant worry from the children: Teacher wants pennies for this, pennies for that, goods for this thing, and goods for that thing. MethinKs if " Smuggler's" parent lived in these days ho would not have been able to write "yet never a grumble." —I am, etc., REAL SxiIUCGLEB. March 20.
