DAVIS CUP PRELIMINARIES
* A SENSIBLE ARRANGEMENT. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, March 18. (Received March 20, at 10.50 a.m.) The United States Lawn Tennis Association has announced that it will suggest that preliminary Davis Cup matches be played in the various countries of .Europe, pointing out (.hat (he primary object of the Davis tournament is to assist 'the spread nf interest in tennis throughout the world. It was at first thought that it would involve a minimum expense if the first and second round matches were played in the United states, but it ia now felt that the additional expenses would not bo justified. It is announced that dales sot for the completion of the Davis Cup matches are: First ties, by June 24: F-ocond. by July 15; semi-ynafo, by July 9; final, by August 8.
