LICENSING LEGISLATION
A TWO-ISSUE BALLOT PAPER. Tho bearing of evidence on behalf of the* National” Council of tho- Licensed Trade of New Zealand was continued at Wellington yesterday by tho Recess Parliamentary Committee set up to inquire as to what amendments .of the Licensing Act will be necessary should National Aclice mo fail to be carried in December Evidence was given by representatives of th Licenced Victuallers’ Association of New Zaaland and associated chartered clubs, while the Rev. John Dawson (secretary) gave evidence on behalf of the Now Zealand Alliance. Counsel appeared for the different interests concerned.
The sitting of the committee was continued to-day, and unless a good man.\ more persons notify the chairman that they desire to give evidence, it is expected that the hearing of witnesses Will be concluded about the middle of nest
"The executive of the New Zealand Alliance announces the acceptance by Mr \V. K. (“Pussyfoot”) Johnson of an_ invitation to help in the corning licensing poll campaign in the llonrnucu. Ihc executive also resolved to urge the Parliamentary Committee to secure a two-issuo ballot paper, so that, voters might choose between Continuance or National Prohibition ; also that a new electoral roll bo prepared, in view of Inc fact that the 101 l at lust election contained 8,000 or more names than there were adults in the Dominion. It was also resolved to inform the committee that the Alliance was opposed to any extension of the three-year interval between the polls or the redistribution of licenses.
