WAR SLOOP LABURNUM
ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND. ■
H.M. sloop Laburnum, which was fitted out at Devon port, England, forduty on the New Zealand station, arrived at Auckland at 2.30 p.m, yesterday from England via Suez, Singapore, Noumea, and Great Barrier Island. Slio made tho call at tho Barrier {o clean up after her long; voyage. Tho Laburnum is one of the Largo number of sloops built during tho wartor patrol arid other duties, of which only about twenty now remain in tho fleet. 'Tho Veronica, now on tho New Zealand station, is one of these vessels, and the Laburnum is similar in con- 1 struct!on. They have a displacement of 1,250 tons, length 255 ft, 2,400 b.p., and a. speed of 17 knots. Their armament consists of two din, two 3pounders, and they have a complement of 93 men. Tho Laburnum was completed in March, 1916, and has come to New Zealand for service hero and in the South Sea Islands.
Among the officers on tho Laburnum are: Lieutenant John S. Haynes and Lieutenant Roger B. Gibb, Actinglioutonant John L. Isacke j surgeon* Lieutenant-commander I. A. Watson; gunner, William H. Lake; wax-rant engineer, Elias Brown.
