AN AUCKLAND BURGLARY
OVER £SOO STOLEN,
A daring burglary was perpetrated at tho offices of the Lion Brewery, Khybor Pass road, Auckland, late on Thursday night or early yesterday morning, a largo sum of money being taken- from the offices, which are separated from the main building by a roadway. The entrance was effected through the back door, which is sheltered by a porch. Inside the porch is a double door which at night is locked on the inside and protected by a strong wooden bar. A square hole was cut in tho panel of the door with an augur to allow a man to reach through, unlock the door, and remove the wooden bar. Tho burglary' was well planned, as owing to the day being a bank holiday the^ cash to pay the wages of the brewery staff was drawn from the bank on Thursday and lodged in the safe in tho strong room of the offices. Both the strong room and tho safe doors were opened by means of keys, and most of tho cash, which was locked in cash boxes, waa taken, one; small box being overlooked. The locks of tho cash boxes were forced after they had been taken from the strong room. Exact information regarding the amount taken is not available, but it is understood that it exceeds £SOO.
The burglar or burglars must liave worked silently and expeditiously, as four men were working in the brewerv only a short distance fj®a the offices;, ’•
