—— -♦ A nice ling of tho committee of the above-named society was held at Fortobello on Wednesday, when a report on the show held mi September 30 was read. The schedule contained 117 classes, for all of which prizes were allotted ; and 450 entries were received. The display of flowers (iml plants was very good, a special feature being a fine lot of j narcissi sent In tor exhibition only, and donated to the society by Mr A. Pratley,• of. Hawyers Bay. The children’s competitions wore keenly (qjiitr-stcd, the little ones taking a great interest, in the society, which was inaugurated mainly on their behalf. The vegetable section, owing to the early season, was but poorly represented. In iho special sections there was keen competition, the fancy needle work being of a very high order, so that judges had difficulty in selecting llu- iftugi, worthy. During the aftornonn Mr \V. -J. Johnston, of Port ('hulniPTS. gave a short address on the classification and culture of narcissi, which was greatly appreciated. There was a good attendance both in the afternoon and evening. Taken altogether, the show was a financial as well as a horticultural sucres?. At its termination a great variety of good? generously given to tho society by exhibitor? was disnosed of by “ Dutch ’ auction, resulting in a substantial addition to its funds.
