EVILS OF THE DAY
A PAPAL MANIFESTO. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. ROME, December 25. The Pope has issued a manifesto; in which he declares that the war is not over if men are still fighting among themselves. The moral damage is greater than the material. Five evils afflict present society. The first is the lack of discipline ; the second, hatred among brothers; the third, craving for pleasure and enjoyment; the fourth, refusal to work; and the fifth is the loss of faith in God. £t The nations and the peoples will endeavor in vain to reconstruct if they forget what is written in the_ Holy Books,’ that reconstruction is without God’s co-operation, which it is the mission and duty o! the Pope to remind society. I shall devote all my efforts for a return to the belief in the Gospel.”—A. and N.Z. Cable.
