MANCHESTER UNITY

N.G. Bro. M'Lennan presided over a fair attendance of members and visiting brethren at the meeting cf Loyal Albion on Thursday last. Complete arrangements are being made for the entertainment of Roxburgh brethren, who will pay an official visit to the lodge. Albion celebrate their anniversary the same evening. City and suburban lodges have signified their intention of paying official visits on this occasion, and the function promises something above the ordinary. A challenge from Loyal Hand and Heart to a game of soccer was accepted. Seven newmembers were initiated, and two proposals for membership received. Loyal Tapanui celebrated their 51st anniversary by holding a most successful ball. The scene was gay with the bright costumes worn by the ladies and the manycolored sashes of the Oddfellows. Some 80 couples participated. The loyal toast of " King and Unitv " was honored, after which Per. Sec. Bro. P. Hay, on behalf of the lodge, presented P.G. Bro. Duncan M'Coll with a gold medal to mark his jubilee of Oddfellowship. Bro. Hay congratulated Bro. M'Coll on attaining his 50th anniversary as a member of the Order. He mentioned that he had joined the lodge on the Bth March, 1870, had been a trustee for 57 years, was a consistent attender, and ever kept the best interests of the lodge in view. (Hearty applause.) Bro M'Coll, in thanking the -odge for their present, said that he had only done his duty". He urged young members to take an active interest in their lodge, and those who were not already members to join the Oddfellows or some other well-established friendly society. In the unavoidable absence of N.G. Bro J. Clark, G.M. Bro. W. Raffills presided over the meeting of Loyal Hand and Heart on Tuesday evening. An invitation to spend a social evening with Court Pride of Leith Foresters was accepted. Tile new issue of the Handbook was received, and gave general satisfaction. One error has been made in the svllabus in regard to an official visit to Milton. P.G. Bro. W. M'Curdy gave an interesting account of his experiences as a worker in the prisons department. Five propositions for membership were received. Loyal Prince of Wales, Port Chalmers, notify their intention of being present at Loyal Albion with a full team. Their meeting on Tuesday evening was presided over by N.G. Bro. Booth, supported by a full complement of officers. The lodge visited the local lodge of Druids last week, and spent a most enjoyable evening at cards. It was decided to" invite the Druids to a return game. It is anticipated that several brethren will make the trip to Oamaru. The Handbook Committee meet on Thursday evening to make arrangements.
