NEW CRICKET CLUB

AT NORTH-EAST VALLEY

A_ meeting was held last nizht in Dormer's Hotel, at the Botanical Gardens, to form a cricket club, to be known as the North-east Vallev Club. There was a very good attendance of those interested in the popular sport, and the club deserve the encouragement and support of all living in the north end. Mr A. E. Ansell was voted to the chair, and the Otago Cricket Association were represented by Mr Martin.

Mr C. Ingram moved that a clnb be formed and called the North-east Yal'ev Cricket Club.—Mr H. Still seconded the motion, which was carried.

Mr Ingram moved that the club play Association cricket, as that would be more to the benefit of the vounger members. This motion was carried.

The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—Patron, Miss Glendining: president, Mr A. E. Ansell; vi«»-presi-dents—Messrs W. Parker. P. C. Neill, J. Rigby. H. Sanders, and W. Roberts; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Mackle; Management Committee—Messrs O. G<'l- - L. Jervis. H. Still. C. M'Kenzie, W. Hope. C. Ingram, and A. Davidson ; club captain, Mr C. Ingram; Selection Com-mittee—-Messrs Ingram. Davidson, and M'Kenzie ; practice captains. Messrs Hayden and M'lntosh ; delegate to Otago Cricket Association, Mr C. Ingram. With reference to the jrround, Mr Ingram explained that he had seen Crs Hancock and Douglas and Mr Tannock about the Gardens ground. He understood that the Y.M.C.A. Club had applied for it. In his_opinion.it was a case of prior claim against moral right. Mr Jervis said the Gardens cronnd wai the only one they could use. Hs proposed that the chairman and Mr Sanders wait on tbn Reserves Committee of the City Council to arrange for a ground.—This proposal was carried. Votes of thanks were accorded to the donors of material and funds, and to Mr Miller for his work as secretary. Mr Ansell said he would present a bat to the man with the highest batting average for the season. The club will meet for practice next Saturday.
