THE ROSS SMITH FLIGHT
The fascinating film story- of Sir Ross Smith’s and Sir Keith Smith’s wonderful 11,340-mile aeroplane flight from London to Australia is to commence at O’Brien’s Empire Theatre on Saturday evening next. From the start at Hounslow in November of last year, as the film unrolls and Sir Keith Smith clearly and graphically tells the story, the* audience follows with keenest interest for over two hours the flight o? the great Vickers-Vimy plane from London across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the interesting oceans to Port Darwin, and' thence to Adelaide and Melbourne. The Journey is made most realistic and thrilling by means of the motion pictures taken from the aeroplane itself; while a splendid series ox lantern slides also illustrates some of the more picturesque scenes visited by the -aerial _ voyagers. Lyons, Rome, Crete, and Cairo were among the cities called at en route. Marvellous bird’s-eye views are given of these places; also of the Sphinx, the pyramids, and other' wonders of Egypt. The Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the battlefields of El Arist, Rafa, and Gaza are viewed from on high; and the film depicts Persia, India, the Malay Peninsula, and finally the journey across the Island Continent of Australia, as the aeroplane sped on its flight. The trip from Port Darwin to Adelaide and 'Melbourne was photographed by Captain Frank Hurley, official photographer to the Australian Imperial Force in Palestine, and photographer also of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s latest Antarctic expedition. Tire reserve plan is at The Bristol, and is reported to be filling up quickly.
