WEST HARBOR COUNCIL
Ihe monthly meeting of the West Har, hor borough Council was held in the Council Chambers, Ravensbourne, last night, the Mayor (Mr H. E. Moller) in the chair. 1 resent—Crs Robertson, Larnach, Smith, Robb Mitchell, Fraser, Barker, and Gooch. Captain H. F. MTvenzie, on behalf of the balvation Army Band, wrote thanking the council for the arrangements made fo? the comfort of the band at the recent visit of the Prince of Wales to Ravensbourne, and assuring the council that the members of the band were delighted with everything. v TJ 1 ?. Treasur er of the Kavensbourne Pub, lie Library wrote thanking the council io£ their donation of £1 to the library funds. ihe lown Clerk of the Stratford Bor-» ough Council forwarded the following reso« M-ion, which had been paseed bv that council, and asked the council to endorse the resolution if in sympathy with it, and ™ * d 7 ls f the Government accordingly:-* J.nat the Government be asked to take the necessary steps to make Saturday after, noon a universal half-holiday throughout mrtiS° mUUOn * Decided t0 su PP o rt tba «n3hr P 6 *- of the Cromwell Bor, ough Council forwarded the following resolution and urged that the West Harbo* Council give the matter earnest considera* tion:— -That owing to the high price o| leather goods consequent on t-he Government removing the embargo 0 n the export of hides, this council urge on the Government the necessity of reimposing the embargo without delay."—Agreed to support the motion. lf ' _ The Hawera Borough Council wrote asking the support and assistance of the West Harbor Council in bringing before the Government and local members the desirability of the Government taking the necessary steps for the removal of the duty; on children s footwear.—Received. Mr C. R. Gooch wrote tendering his resignation as councillor for St. Leonards Ward, owing to his removal to Auckland —Received, and Mr A. Ibbotson was elected as councillor for St.. Leonards ward. Votes of thanks were passed to thu Mayor and Town Clerk for their good work in connection with the visit of the Prince of Wales to the district. Or Larnach was elected chairman o! the Finance Committee, in, lieu of Q; Gooch (resigned). The finance and inspector's reports were adopted without discussion. A motion bv the Mavor that the Railway Department be written to asking that the work of laying a double line from Dunedin to Port Chalmers and the cutting of Black Jack Point be proceeded with was carried. The Town Clerk was instructed to writo to the Railway Department calling attera. tion to the overcrowding of the DunedinPort trains.
