THE WINTER SHOW

FINE DISPLAY, LARGE CROWDS. The takings for the first day of the I Otago A. and P. Society's Winter Show were only £146 Is, as against £556 15s last year; but the opening synchronised on the latter occasion with the King's i Birthday, which sufficiently accounts for the difference, and there,'is little doubt that the aggregate takings this year will • be as substantial a record as the entries are. In the soldiers' classes, Private. Mason, who was first in rafia work, is a patient in the Montecillo Home, not Dunedin Hospital, as described in the catalogue; and, further, Private Watson, who won a I special prize for rafia work, is also a I Montecillo man. In the basket trays com- j petitions the three prize-winners—-Private • Welsh, Corporal Milne, and Private Moffatt—are all Montecillo patients. • The Show was managed with customarr efficiency by Mr H. V. Fulton (secretary) and a strong staff who surround him for this arduous occasion, 'assisted by the i whole-hearted service of the committee of ' the association.
