i THE NEW AGREEMENT. \ . RATES OF PAT AND CONDITIONS. , As tho result of a conference with the employers at Wellington, the Waterside Workers’ Federation submitted to the various unions in the Dominion the terms of a proposed agreement. Ballots were taken, and ,it was officially announced yesterday that the agreement had been accepted. We append particulars of the rates of pay and conditions at Dunedin and Port Chalmers:— At the PORT OF DUNEDIN the following shall be the rates of pay per hour for the work hereinafter specified:— Ordinary. For all work done 6a Sundays, Christma Day, and Good Friday the men shall be paid at the rate of 5s per hour in addition to the contract rate provided by clause 1 hereof. For all work done on any of the holidays hereinafter mentioned the men shall be paid at the rate of 2s 6d per hour, in addition to the contract rate provided by clause 1 hereof. The holidays throughout the year shall be New Year's Day, Easter Monday, Birthday of the Reigning Sovereign, Labor Day, Boxing Day, and the union’s picnic day. If any of these holidays shall bo generally bserved on anv day other than that oii which it falls, the provisions of this agreement, shall apply to such other day instead of the original day, provided always that ne day only be taken for the holidav." If a holiday falls on or is observed on a Saturday, then the men shall be paid at the rate of 5s per hour in addition to the contract rate provided by clause 1 hereof (in lieu of 2s 6d per hour) fbr work after noon. " ' STARTING WORK AT MIDXIGFJ' ON SUNDAYS. When men start a job between midnigh on Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday they shall be paid at the Tate of 5s per hour in addition to the contract rate provided by clause 1 hereof for the time worked up to 8 a.m. on Monday. CONTINUING WORK AFTER MIDNIGHT SUNDAYS.’ When men have been working during Sunday and continue after midnight, the additional payment of 5s per hour provided fo Sunday work by clause 4 hereof shall continue up to 8 a.m. on Monday. GENERAL AND FROZEN. When lighters are unloaded at more than one hatch (except in the case of the hatch being finished) the men shall be paid at the rate of 2s 7d per hour between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m, 3s 8d per hour between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., and 4s 4d per hour between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. for the time actually occupied in shifting the lighter and siting the hatches ready. ° ® If men are employed to restow cargo taken in at other ports, and for cleanin'* up holds, they shall be paid at the rate of 2s 7d per hour between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m” 3s 8d per hour between 6 p.m. andlO p.m., nd 4s 4d per hour between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. for the time actually occupied at such work. Except by mutual consent, men shall ot be called upon to unload more than five lighter* in the 24 hours. WORK ON SATURDAYS. SThe overtime rate for work done between noon and midnight on Saturdays shall rate fixed for special overtime between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. for the class of work men are engaged for. (b) On Saturday afternoon, if men are rdorod to commence work before 3 p.m. and attend, they shall be paid from 1 p.m. If hey are ordered to commence work after 3 p.m. and attend, they shall be paid a retaining fee of two hours in addition to the time actually worked. (c) Excepting Westport, if men are ordered to commence work at 6 p.m. and attend they shall be paid a retaining fee of two hours for the afternoon, and a minimum of two hours from 6 p.m. (d) If men are ordered to commence work at 7 p.m. or later and attend, they shall be paid a retaining fee of two hours for th afternoon and the minimum provided for in the agreement. (e) At Westport, if men are ordered bac to commence work at 6 p.m. and attend they shall be paid the minimum of four hours provided for in the agreement in addition to a retaining fee of two hours for Saturday afternoon. ’ (f) Men shall not be called upon to work after 5 p.m. on Saturdays, except in the event of special cases arising, when the question of working after 5 p.m. on Saturday to finish a ship shall be decided by the local committee at the port concerned This paragraph shall not apply to bar harbors, or roadstead or tidal ports, at which work shall be carried on as at present. STARTING WORK MIDNIGHT, SUNDAYS. The overtime rate for work started between midnight on Sundays and 7 a.m Mondays shall be double the ordinary rate for the class of work the men are engaged for' with a minimum of four hours, provided that if required by the employers” the men shall work on beyond 8 a.m. in order to mplete tho minimum period. If casual men are in taking vessels’ lines between these hours they shall be paid 5s per hour, with a minimum of three hours. ’ J
